A photo of someone who revived erhu lessons and their old memories

Have you all been able to continue playing the erhu without any interruptions since you started playing it a long time ago?

Playing any instrument requires a long period of training, but the erhu is particularly long.

During the long period of time you are learning, you will encounter some kind of change in your environment.

Moving, changing school or work, changes in family environment, child-rearing, nursing care, and changes in your own physical and mental condition, etc.

The most important thing is how to deal with these issues, so you will inevitably find yourself having to give up on the erhu.

I have had two long breaks and several short breaks when I haven't played the erhu.

(Photos of people who have resumed erhu lessons and old memories)

None of us can survive alone, and we all have living bodies, so it can't be helped.

I think the important thing is to start playing the erhu again when the environment is right and continue playing for a longer period of time.

Resuming operations will not be easy in some ways, but I hope they can overcome this hurdle.

At the China Erhu Academy, there are quite a few students who have resumed lessons.

The gap is not short, ranging from 3 or 4 years to over 10 years.

Every time this happens, I feel relieved, along with my students, that this is a classroom they can return to easily.

This spring, one person

One person made a huge comeback after a 20-year hiatus, and they started practicing again, using only a little memory of what they had learned previously.

We'll be moving on to the previous level songs soon.

His playing style is very careful, and I think his skills are several times better than before.

During the lesson we talk about a variety of things.

The conversation turns to old stories, such as how this revival came about and what inspired people to start playing the erhu in the first place.

The memory of the person who first encountered the erhu was very precious to him, and because I don't have a good memory, he brought a photo of that time with him last time 😸🙏

Erhu performance at the Chinese Cultural Festival on September 20th, 2004.

I vaguely remember attending such an event at El Plaza.

I can't remember what the situation was like when I looked at the photo...

Mr. Zhang is young! He's a little younger than I am now... but the atmosphere of his erhu playing hasn't changed.

And when he saw me playing so frantically, I felt a sense of love for him, like he was looking at his own daughter, and I don't mean that in a bad way...

Thank you so much for working hard and continuing to work this far!

Although I had to endure many things, including the erhu, I made good progress on my journey, which had its ups and downs.

To all of you who are currently continuing to play the erhu, please be proud of yourself.

It's really hard to stick with one thing for a long time.

To all of you reading this who haven't played the erhu for a long time, when it's your turn,

Please don't hesitate to start again.

I'll be waiting for you in this classroom anytime✨🤗

2004 Chinese Cultural Festival Performance Zhang Huan

By the way, I have released a playlist called "Erhu Duo: The Zhang Family, a Two-Country Couple" on YouTube. If it were me back then, I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do something like that even if I was asked to.

Now, I can do it because I'm an old lady with no shame or reputation.
